Malta Adds To Online Tax Services For VAT, PAYE

Thursday, June 25, 2020

Malta's Commissioner for Revenue (CFR) announced on June 1, 2020, that it has launched five new online forms for businesses regarding payroll taxes and value-added tax.

The agency is now automating responses to requests from taxpayers, modernizing the electronic process currently in place that requires intervention from CFR staff.

The five new forms enable taxpayers to:

  • Apply for a new PE number under the Final Settlement System (Malta's PAYE regime);
  • De-activate a PE number;
  • Re-activate a PE number;
  • Change their VAT Register Type (from taxable to exempt, etc.); and
  • Change, add, or remove an economic activity from their VAT profile.

Requests through these forms will be processed in real time and can be submitted through the Office of the Commissioner for Revenue's website, from the main page. The VAT forms should be submitted through VAT e-Services.

The agency said the new services are intended to cut the waiting time for taxpayers seeking prompt replies and approvals.

The CFR has released a presentation including instructions on how to submit such requests.
