Interest In Guernsey As A Film Finance Centre Grows

Friday, March 16, 2012

Guernsey's latest London seminar, to showcase the island's offerings as a leading international film finance centre, has been hailed a success after attracting an audience of over 100 senior members of the UK film community.

In what was Guernsey's second promotional trip to London since the formation of the 'Guernsey Film' initiative three years ago, the event brought together UK financiers, advisers to the film industry, producers and directors, media and entertainment lawyers, distributors and agents, accountants and tax advisers, with Guernsey firms engaged in areas related to film finance, including banking, investment, funds, insurance, intellectual property, law, tax and IT.

The London event, titled ‘Film Wrapped Up: The Guernsey Advantage - because life should be simple’, included presentations on the progress of Guernsey Film, an overview of the marketplace, technical innovation, Guernsey's world leading position in intellectual property and image rights management, and an overview of financing and structuring opportunities. Attendance, at just over 130, was double that seen at the event held to launch Guernsey Film at the end of 2010.

Welcoming the success of the event, keynote speaker, Baker & McKenzie’s wealth management Partner, Ashley Crossley, said: “This event was very important because it brought together the advisory community, film professionals looking for investors and investors themselves in a single sector-specific event. For clients with an interest in investing in film, Guernsey’s wider appeal is that the jurisdiction already produces wealth management structures with which investors are already familiar. In addition, Guernsey’s common law structure also provides legal certainty.”
