Ensuring the successful implementation of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 remains the US Internal Revenue Service's highest priority, according to its new five-year Strategic Plan.
Describing the new law as the most extensive revision of the US tax code in 30 years, IRS Acting Commissioner David J. Kautter writes in the Strategic Plan that administering the new law will require "extensive implementation work in calendar years 2018 and 2019."
"Efforts to implement the new legislation are already underway, and the IRS is providing taxpayers and practitioners with information to address new tax compliance obligations timely and accurately," Kautter said. "The IRS expects to publish additional guidance as we continue to analyze how the new law affects taxpayers."
According to the IRS, the Strategic Plan will serve as a roadmap to help guide the agency's programs and operations. It has six objectives intended primarily to improve the level of service provided to taxpayers. These include:
